- No knowledge of sculpting is needed - just the ability to copy basic forms from a picture.

- Space requirements: large table top.

- Persistence and patience: the techniques are easy but this will take time

Course Description

In this course you will learn the process of creating a foil shape of a figure, coating it with clay, wrapping it in plastic to create strength and painting it for an outdoor setting. The process is relatively straightforward.

This course includes 3 hours of video instruction with 10 sections.

Actual work time: Intermittently over 4-5 days, allowing for design, set up, post work clean up, assembly, and drying times.

You'll recieve:

- Clear, easy to follow, instructions.

- A group journey through design, build up of forms, creating personality through the pose.

&

- finish with a coat of permanent outdoor clay and then paint.

Kim Beaton

Sculptor, Inventor & Instructor

Award winning artist, Kim Beaton, has over 30 years’ experience as a sculptor. A talented artist with excellence in anatomy, human figure, and large -scale projects, she is also a vibrant and engaging business woman, inventor and instructor. 

Kim's greatest passion is for large outdoor sculpture. By far, the most compelling themes in her work involve children's literature and mythology. These themes allow for an examination of man and our place in the natural world as either masters or a living component.

Kim has worked at Hasbro in WA producing several hundred small sculptures for three of the company’s Star Sisterz Game lines as well as for their Harry Potter Line. She was also a sculptor for Wizards of The Coast, solely in charge of creating all large-scale sculptures for their US retail stores nationwide. Responsible for taking each designed sketch to completion, which included welding, sculpting, mold making, fiber-glassing, assembling, painting, and installation on projects from 4 to 26 ft tall.

Kim has exhibited in places such as Bellagio Casino, Las Vegas, the San Jose World Scifi Convention, and Art galleries in Washington to name just a few.

Kim currently does work for film and television with Academy Award Winning, Weta Workshop in New Zealand and is the co-founder and creative director at Pal Tiya International.
